Services and Activities at Al Yamamah University

Al Yamamah University provides state-of-the-art facilities, student-focused services and a healthy academic environment to help students fulfill their educational and personal goals.

Health Services

Al Yamamah University provides an optional medical insurance plan for all its full-time students. The medical insurance plan covers all medical expenses incurred on visits to selected private clinics and hospitals.
In addition, the University has two clinics: one for boys located in the sports building at the main campus, and another for girls located in the basement of the girl’s campus. These clinics provide primary health care and are ready to handle emergencies.

Dining

The university hosts a number of carefully chosen restaurants and cafeterias that offer a variety of food and beverages.
The main campus has a canteen that serves a wide variety of rich and healthy food, snacks, sandwiches and beverages all competitively priced.
The women’s campus houses a food court that allows students, staff and faculty to enjoy a friendly atmosphere with a meal from a number of cafeterias competing to provide the best catering service.

Academic Advising

YU sees academic advising as one of the most important elements that help students succeed in their academic study. Students are assigned academic advisors to assist them in selecting their course of study and planning their schedules. Advisors help students receive a well-balanced education and interpret the university’s policies and procedures.

Athletic Facilities

The University encourages students, faculty and staff to pursue and attain a healthy lifestyle by integrating body and mind through recreation and sporting activities. We believe that these activities are especially essential for students to reach their full individual potential.
For that purpose, YU campus houses a sports club on the main campus. The club has courts for volleyball, basketball and handball, along with a bowling alley, as well as a fully equipped gym area; to welcome those who want to keep fit, or just want to spend some leisure time there.  Apart from that, the outdoor sporting facilities include a soccer field, and tennis and basketball courts, prepared for hosting public sports' events.
Not overlooking the importance of sports and well-being for girls, we have incorporated an exercise/recreation area in their building with a gym, an exercise studio and recreation facilities including a bowling alley. These facilities will help contribute to the mission and vision of Al Yamamah University, which is to provide the best possible resources for students to develop their full potential.

Student Council

Al Yamamah University supports the personal and social growth of individual students, especially the development of their leadership skills. As such, the university authorizes the establishment of a Student Council to:

  • Promote student understanding of and appreciation for the complexities of the operation of an institution of higher education
  • Promote student participation in the discussion of issues relevant to the development of the university, using Roberts Rules of Order
  • Promote student representation and leadership, on behalf of the larger student body, to the administration especially on matters involving students
  • Promote transparency in the operation of the university
  • Support YU in the development of student services in accordance with the values of YU
  • Support YU in organizing, promoting, and conducting activities beneficial to the experience of students, while they're at YU
  • Help disseminate information of interest to students

The student council units meet every two weeks during the academic year (fall and spring semesters), as two separate bodies, for men and for women. The council presidents plan the agenda for each meeting in cooperation with the student advisor.

Every full- and part-time student enrolled either in SILC or academic credit courses is a member of the council, and eligible to participate in council sponsored activities.  However, only full-time students, in good standing, may run for and hold the offices of unit President, Vice President, and Secretary.

Career Center

Respecting its mission, the university sponsors enrichment opportunities through its career centre. This centre serves as a resource for students in leadership development and career planning. It plans and implements programs during the academic year to draw diverse groups of students together and engage them in a variety of activities. Its goal is to nurture students and equip them to be "job ready" graduates with a wide range of skills and professional knowledge.

The centre offers the following programs:

Co-op:

The Co-op is an essential part of all programs offered at YU. It aims to integrate learning in the classroom with related work experience, providing students with an opportunity to learn new skills and build impressive resumes. To participate in this program, students must have completed 60 credits of the school’s business curriculum. In order to complete it successfully, they must finish 150 hours in a work site arranged by the university.

In order to ensure the success of this program, the centre chooses to partner with the best companies operating here in Saudi Arabia for the students to work for.

Part-time Jobs:

Part-time Job program is provided to facilitate the employment of competent students in offices and service areas on campus on a part-time basis. It aims to assist students in gaining educationally-related work experience prior to graduation. It is a great opportunity for students to earn money, acquire new skills and make use of their free time. The career centre is always ready to receive interested students and arrange to place them in positions that fit their educational background and level.

Volunteering:

Students are encouraged to utilize their free time by volunteering to assist the university’s staff. Students who are interested can go to the Career Centre, sign up for the Volunteer program and they will be assigned small tasks on campus.

The Centre has established guidelines and criteria to acknowledge and reward volunteers: they earn points based on hours of volunteer work; one hour of volunteering equals one point.  Points will be tracked and managed through records by Career Center.

Activities:

The academic aspect of university life is just one element of students’ overall experience in YU. The university offers a variety of trips, events and clubs that cater to all interests.

The centre continuously arranges field trips and organizes cultural, educational and sport events. In addition, it encourages volunteering among students to help them develop awareness of volunteer work and encourage them to make devotion to society.
