ORIENTATION YEAR PROGRAM
The Orientation Year Program prefaces all bachelor degrees offered at Al Yamamah University. The aim of this program is to bridge the gap between the general secondary education and higher education, and to formalize student attitudes toward regulations and requirements of undergraduate studies. In addition, it provides students with an intensive English program so they can easily proceed to and succeed in the academic courses, which are taught in English.
Note: Applicants with a TOEFL score of 500 (CBT 173, iBT 61) or more, or with an IELTS Band of 5.5 or more (with a minimum of 5 in 'writing') do not need to enroll in the SILC program, and may start Academic English 101 and other degree courses. Scores should be less than three years old if the applicant lives in a non-English speaking country.
The Orientation Year Program is divided into two components:
1. Intensive English Language Program:
To ensure excellence in English language learning, Al Yamamah University established a partnership agreement with INTERLINK Language Centers in the USA. For more than twenty-six years, INTERLINK Language Centers have been providing intensive English language training, academic preparation, and cross-cultural orientation programs to thousands of international students on diverse American university campuses, including the Colorado School of Mines, Guilford College, Indiana State University, Valparaiso University, and the University of North Carolina in Greensboro.
The Saudi/INTERLINK Language Center provides an adapted INTERLINK curriculum for Al Yamamah students on campus in Riyadh. The intensive English language program consists of:
- Eight levels of English courses, each level is 8 weeks long
- Two course-branches in the program: Communication and Reading/Writing
- Students start at the level that matches their English language skills following an assessment of their proficiency through a comprehensive placement test
- Students proceed to the next level after a careful assessment of 6 main components: Proficiency, Progress, Preparation, Participation, Performance and Punctuality & Attendance
2. Basic Science Courses: Comp 001: Introduction to Computing Comp 002: Advance Computer Skills |
